From Disney’s famous films to the merchandising they inspire, princesses are one of the most distinctive and popular characters around. But what does it mean to be a princess?
A princess, as the female counterpart to prince, is a woman of royal or noble rank. She may also be the hereditary ruler of a principality, or simply the daughter of a monarch. Traditionally, princesses have been able to marry only into royalty. This has changed over time, however, as women have gained more power and respect in Europe. In modern times, the term is used to refer to any woman who has a significant role in her family or society.
Princesses are kind, thoughtful, smart and brave. They love to dress up and are always ready for fun. They also enjoy learning new things and are great dreamers. They’re also polite and like to help others. Try to be a princess by being kind, being thoughtful and helping people whenever you can. Also, work on being a good learner and remember to always practice your manners.
Over the years, Disney has added and removed characters from their list of official princesses. Tinker Bell and Esmeralda, for example, made the list at one point but were later dropped because they did not fit the princess mythology. The same is true for Jane Porter, who was once considered a princess but was later excluded because her character did not fit the franchise (and because Disney would have to pay her royalties). In general, though, princesses are women of all ages that can be inspirations to young girls.
