Princesses to the Rescue

In classic fairy tales, the princess symbolizes purity, innocence and virtue. She is the heart’s desire, the quest’s end and the reward for the hero’s trials and tribulations. In modern media, the princess can also be seen as a symbol of empowerment and self-discovery. This shift reflects societal changes regarding gender roles and expectations. However, the princess archetype can also be a warning about the dangers of vanity, entitlement and the abuse of privilege.

Although all Disney Princesses are regal and have great wisdom, they also show empathy for others and the ability to forgive. They are known for their beauty both inside and out, their compassion, and their ability to communicate with animals.

Almost all the Princesses, with the exception of Merida, Moana and Raya, have experienced a conflict with a family member – either their father or mother. Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella and Jasmine have a love interest who is also a prince while Pocahontas, Mulan and Raya have a relationship with their father.

The Princesses are all represented in the new manga series, ‘The Story of the Princesses’ by Kilala. In the story, six of the official Princesses come together to help rescue their friend Erica from the evil clutches of Valdou. The Princesses each contribute one of their gems to the Magic Tiara and when all are collected, the magic works and the friends are freed from Valdou’s grip. Princesses to the Rescue is available for pre-order from Second Story Press with all proceeds going to charity.
