A princess is the daughter or granddaughter of a monarch. In the past, a princess often ruled her own principality, but today, the title is generally reserved for women who marry a prince or king and live in his castle. A princess is also a figure who is adored by little girls for her beauty and grace, and many girls have princess parties with fancy dresses and plastic tiaras.
These photos by photographer Blake Fitch capture the dignity and power of princesses in early childhood. The princess is a figure that is powerful yet natural at the same time, reminiscent of the reigning females on Game of Thrones or the aristocratic inhabitants of Downton Abbey, but more wholesomely assertive.
The Princess attends events and visits in the UK and abroad on behalf of Her Majesty. She is patron or president of over 300 charities, organisations and military regiments. She supports projects on sport, the arts, people with disabilities, and children in need worldwide. She has visited a number of Save the Children projects in countries including China, Cambodia and Madagascar.
Previously, The Princess competed as a member of the British equestrian team in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and was part of London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics. She is a keen supporter of Team GB and has visited Rio as part of her role as a British member of the International Olympic Committee. She has also been a long-standing supporter of Save the Children, and in this capacity she visits projects around the world.
