Who is a Princess?

A princess is a high-ranking female member of a royal family or the wife of a prince. She may also be the daughter of a king or queen, or the eldest daughter of another sovereign.

Despite her lack of political power, the Princess has seen first-hand how some of the most challenging social issues have their roots in the earliest years of life and is committed to raising awareness for these areas. She has also been a champion of the importance of collaborative action to improve outcomes for children and their families.

In her role as Patron of a number of charities, The Princess continues to draw attention to key issues, including the support of mental health and emotional wellbeing, the impact of addiction on children and their families, and the need for collaboration to tackle early childhood disadvantage. She is also a keen sportswoman and believes that physical health complements mental health and has the potential to engage, inspire and change lives.

The Princess has always been a popular figure, but her profile has been further raised by a resurgence of interest in the Royal Family following Netflix’s The Crown. Earlier this year, the series revealed the true story of Princess Alice, mother of Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Alice, who was a passionate philanthropist, hid her Jewish roots for most of her life and is lovingly remembered in Israel and among many Jewish people. In the TV show, she gave an interview to journalist John Armstrong, played by Colin Morgan, which helped to improve public perception of the monarchy.
