From glacier-studded mountains to quaint villages and the world-famous Denali National Park, Princess guests discover a variety of immersive experiences led by local experts.

The fact that so little is known hitherto of the Princess’s childhood is a cause for satisfaction rather than regret; she had been wisely guarded and sheltered, and her personality allowed to develop naturally, untampered with by an undue consciousness of status.

Her love of reading was evident from a very early age, and she read with a keen and enthusiastic interest. She was well acquainted with English literature, both ancient and modern, and she read widely in history as well as in modern European authors.

In later years she devoted much of her time to charity work. She was a patron of Centrepoint, the homelessness charity; of the English National Ballet and the Leprosy Mission; and President of the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street. She also took an active part in the campaign to combat HIV/AIDS, and visited victims of the disease at hospitals throughout the country.

In her last years she visited the Netherlands and Luxembourg, both as a solo traveler and with the Prince of Wales. She remained active in her many patronages and also created Hold Still, a photography project during the COVID-19 pandemic that invited people to share photographs of their lives during lockdown, providing a snapshot of the nation’s shared and individual experiences.
