A princess is a member of the royal family, typically the daughter of a monarch or queen or the wife of a prince. Princess is also a term used to describe a fictional character, such as a princess in a fairy tale or the princess of darkness from an anime series. A princess may be a young girl or an adult woman.
It is hard to imagine a little girl more beloved than Diana, Princess of Wales, who died nearly 25 years ago and was arguably the most popular princess in history. She exemplified grace, elegance, glamour, and beauty; championed numerous charitable causes, including children, AIDS-related issues, and landmine victims; and was a fashion trendsetter.
While it is easy to dismiss the world of princess culture as a cult of pink or perhaps an example of commercialism’s power to colonize a child’s mind, one cannot overlook the fact that little girls love this stuff. It has something to do with them and their developmental window, just as they loved their dolls and their ice cream and the magic of Disneyland.
