What Does it Mean to Be a Princess?

Just about every little girl grows up dreaming of being a princess, playing dress up in gowns and crowns. But what does it really mean to be a princess? It’s more than just dressing up, it’s about having an honest attitude and caring personality. A true princess is kind and brave.

Princesses are often seen as spoiled because they receive all of their social status from the men in their lives (fathers, husbands, and sons). The word princess can also be used to describe women who are demanding and have high expectations of themselves.

Several rules have been established for what makes a princess, such as being a female heir to the throne of her country or kingdom or having royal blood. The official Disney Princesses include Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida.

Although these princesses all have different stories, they all possess similar traits such as being able to overcome their obstacles, having a strong sense of loyalty and honesty, and being incredibly beautiful inside and out. They are also a symbol of courage and perseverance, and they inspire girls to follow their dreams.

Other princesses that may not have the same royal bloodline as the official princesses, but who still embody these traits, are Maid Marian (Robin Hood), Faline (Bambi), Nala (The Lion King), Princess Atta (A Bug’s Life), and Princess Kida (Hercules). The only requirement for being a princess in the world of Disney is having a popular film that sells a lot of merchandise, so Alice from Alice in Wonderland was never considered a Disney Princess because she didn’t meet this criteria.
