Traditionally, only reigning princes have been sovereigns, but princesses have occasionally filled the role. Sonja Haraldsen of Norway, for example, became a crown princess when she married Crown Prince Harald in 1968. In most principalities, women could not inherit the throne, but some countries allow a woman to become a princess regnant if she marries a prince of that country and holds the title for the duration of her marriage to him.
The princess we see in popular culture is often a bit of a princess pottymouth, who thinks that she’s better than everyone else and expects people to bow down to her. Her heart, however, is in the right place and she is not afraid to stand up for what’s right.
On a cruise, a princess may long for the fairytale world that she’s seen in movies and on TV. She loves to be pampered and has the potential to develop into a self-centered diva who only wants to be loved by the right guy.
We can encourage our daughters to embrace their God-given royal heritage and help them develop Godly fruits of the Spirit as they pursue adventures. We can also teach them that their true royal identity comes from the One who created them, and they can begin to understand what it means to be a princess of purpose.
